THE HOUSE OF THE BRONTES
LA CASA DELLA FAMIGLIA BRONTE

   The parsonage in which the Bronte sisters lived their whole life is a Georgian house built in 1778 with local stone.   Many times altered and expanded,  it was finally presented to the Bronte Society in 1928 and has been restored,  as much as possible,  to its original form and converted into a museum.
   Its setting,  in front of Haworth's Parish Church (which is not Reverend Patrick Bronte's, his was torn down and rebuilt after his death) and beside the local graveyard,  makes it a surprisingly unusual-looking house.
   It has been proven that Emily and Charlotte Bronte wrote their most famous novels,  Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre,  in this house which also happened to be where they both died.   It is therefore not surprising that,  despite the rather high entrance fee for the amount of objects displayed (not wisely dispersed in many London museums),  this house-turned museum is an irresistible attraction for whomever has loved the Brontes,  their novels and their life stories.

   La canonica in cui le sorelle Bronte trascorsero la loro intera vita e' una casa georgiana,  costruita nel 1778 in pietra locale.   Piu' volte rimaneggiata ed ampliata,  venne infine donata nel 1928 alla Bronte Society ed e' stata oggi,  nel limite del possibile,  riportata al suo aspetto originario e trasformata in museo.
   La sua collocazione,  di fronte alla chiesa parrocchiale di Haworth (che pero' non e' quella del Reverendo Patrick Bronte, essendo stata demolita e ricostruita in epoca successiva alla morte) e di fianco al locale cimitero,  la rende una dimora dall'aspetto davvero sorprendente ed inusuale.
   E' ormai assolutamente provato che proprio in questa casa Emily e Charlotte Bronte scrissero i loro romanzi piu' noti:   Cime Tempestose e Jane Eyre,  e che qui infine morirono entrambe.   Non stupisce pertanto che,  nonostante un prezzo d'ingresso piuttosto elevato rispetto al materiale esposto (poco saggiamente disperso in vari musei londinesi),  questo luogo sia un'attrazione pressoche' irresistibile per chiunque abbia amato le sorelle Bronte,  i loro racconti e le loro vite.
